The Da Vinci Code, Gospel of Judas, the “Lost books of the Bible,” the theories of “The Disciple Jesus Loved,” and the theory of who killed Moses, are but just more recent attacks originating from wrong sources.
I have never been impressed by scholarship that always attempts to lead people away from the relevance and truth of the scriptures for speculation and conjecture.
One of my Bible college professors told us there are three keys to look for when comparing the Bible to all of the extrabiblical writings. First is edification, and Paul states in I Cor 14:3 (NKJ) “But he who prophecies i.e. forth telling the mind of G-d, speaks edification, exhortation and comfort to men.” Paul tells us in a nutshell people need to be built up. Certainly a necessary compliment to the days we are living in.
Second, exhortation. Although not always easy to receive at first, the application of scriptures to our lives that brings positive change, is an eternal benefit.
Finally, there is none of us that do not need comfort from time to time for a variety of reasons. Again, we go to G-d’s word, then we give to all that are in need.
Mindless conjecture, speculation, and only a portion of truth mixed in with too much other stuff is neither the will nor the mind of G-d. The more word the purer the prophecy and it is the pure truth of the Gospel that edifies, exhorts, and comforts the church. This must be our goal.
