In the closing days of World War I, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson put all of his faith in his concept of the League of Nations and man’s ability to create a safe prosperous environment for the world. So positive was Wilson’s belief that he boldly asserted, “I will give you a League of Nations and an everlasting peace.”
The core of this alliance was compromised of Wilson, Britain’s David Lloyd George, France’s Georges Clemenceau, and Vittorio Orlando, and each one had promised their respective nation’s money, real estate and unparalleled peace. Interesting that within two years Wilson and Clemenceau would be dead, Orlando replaced by a dictator and Georges would go without reelection; none neither gaining the personal satisfaction nor realized the dream.
There is nothing wrong with desiring peace, but creating the perfect environment for people and expecting them to do right just because, just isn’t reality.
Though man’s efforts fail and it seems there can be no peace, never forget the prophetic promise of the coming Messiah. Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Alliance, promises even guarantees cannot be the basis of peace which will come but only in God’s time according to His word and that’s the only guarantee you can count on!
